Welcome to the JLGA
Since the
beginning of the JLGA in December
2007, it's members voted
to adopt a symbol that they felt
best represented their association &
their state. Since our colors are
purple, green, & gold they wanted
something
that would go along with that, so
they chose the Fleur De Lis &
we have been using that as our
symbol ever since.

NEW FOR
2010 SHOW ORDER WILL BE ROTATED
- (Posted
02/08/10)
To be fair to all
exhibitors & give everyone an
opportunity to show early & get
back on the road home, this year
on a trial basis
we will be rotating the show order.
Shows held in the South will start
with the AOB Classes & shows held
in the North/Central
part of the state will start with
Boer Classes. Also so that Boer
Exhibitors or AOB Exhibitors will not
have to arrive early & not
miss out on Showmanship, showmanship will
be held between the Boer & AOB
Classes. Each individual show order &
check-in times
will be posted as soon as they
are available. Exhibitors may arrive early
if they choose to do so.
ALSO NEW REGARDING DAIRY
GOATS FOR THE 2010 JLGA SHOW SEASON
Kidding season is here
for all breeds & thus it is
milking time for the Dairy Breeds.
Dairy does who have freshened & are
in milk are shown with a full
udder. Some exhibitors choose to leave
the offspring on the mamas, then the
night before
the show pull the babies so the
udder will fill out & then after
the does show the next morning, the babies
are put back
with the mamas. Some exhibitors pull
the babies from birth & the dairy
does are putting on a regular milking
schedule,
they would be milked the night before
the show & then milked out after
the completion of the next mornings show.
Due to these factors & also that
it is very uncomfortable for the does
to be left uddered up for a long
period of time,
on a show by show basis, if
there are Dairy Does in milk that
either need to be milked out or
need to be put back
with their babies, then they will show
first. Also at the judges request
Dairy Bucks will immediately follow the
Dairy Does so the
judges will still be in the dairy
mindset. The rest of the show order
will resume as scheduled.

BUCKS BACK
AT STATE FAIR!! - (Posted

as they are available.

NEW
"CARD" SYSTEM FOR THE JLGA BAYOU
CERTIFIED PROGRAM. (Posted 12/10/09)
The JLGA Board
of Directors Members have been working
on improving our Bayou Certified Programs,
we are proud to announce that our new
"Card" system for the Bayou
Certified Breeding Program is now in place.
Tags will no
longer be issued. We will be going with laminated cards listing goat ID# along with Bayou
Certified number,
cards are to be kept with registration
papers & presented at time of
check-in.
Cards are being made for past Bayou
Certified Goats. Cards can be picked up
at any JLGA Event
or Show.
No cards will be issued or made
for registered goats, without a copy
of the completed registration papers of the
Bayou Certified
Goat. A list of Bayou Certified
Breeding Goats can be found by
following the Bayou Certified List
link above. If you have a Bayou certified goat
& do not see them listed after
the table is posted, please
contact Cynthia Hailey, JLGA Adult Secretary
regarding your goat. As always if you have any comments
or questions
regarding this matter, please don't hesitate to contact any JLGA
Board Member.
The Junior
Louisiana Goat Association
is dedicated to all youth
& their goat projects
throughout the state of Louisiana.
The main focus of
the JLGA has & always will be
the youth & their goat projects.
In keeping with this focus the JLGA
Adult Advisors noticed that besides
just showing, more youth were getting
into raising their own goats to show.
The goats were also expanding. Not
only were youth raising & showing
market & boer goats, but AOB goats
were on a steady increase, especially
the dairy goats. So much in fact
that the JLGA Adult Advisors saw a
need to separate the AOB Class into
2 classes beginning with the 2008 JLGA
Show Season. The classes would be
one class for AOB Hair & Meat
Does & Bucks & one class for
only Dairy Does & Bucks. New for
the 2010 Show Season on a trial
basis we will be having a Pygmy Wether
Class. For more information on this
class & rules please follow the JLGA
Rules & Guidelines link above.
The JLGA
is dedicated to the youth &
promoting the youth goat project throughout
the state of Louisiana. The JLGA is
open to all youth ages 0-19 as
of January 1 of the year they
wish to be a member.
The 2009 JLGA
Show Season has come to an end.
It was another great show season. 7 open junior
shows were held throughout the state &
the youth participating worked really hard
& it showed in their animals. Please
click on the JLGA Newsletter &
Important Updates link to view the
2009 "End of Year" Placings.
Plans for
the 2010 JLGA Show Season is well
under way. Please check the News & Events page often as
updated information will be posted there
as soon as available regarding 2010
Show Dates, Locations, Rules, etc.
Also please be sure to read over
the Rules & Guidelines & Bayou
Certified Rules as some rules have
changed for the 2010 JLGA Show Season.
HOPE
TO
SEE

ROAD
SOMEWHERE!!
